An intimate look at Abby and Becker’s Italian destination wedding at Villa Parisi in Castiglioncello, Tuscany, photographed by Morgan Elise Photography.
There is something about Italy that makes you want to slow down. Maybe it’s the way the afternoon light settles against centuries-old architecture, the sound of the Mediterranean, or the seemingly effortless way Italians make room for beauty in everyday life.
Whatever it is, Italy has a way of reminding you that some of the most meaningful experiences in life aren’t meant to be rushed.
And weddings? I think they deserve that same kind of presence.
When Abby and Becker invited me to travel across the world to photograph their destination wedding at Villa Parisi in Castiglioncello, Italy, I knew it would be an experience I would carry with me long after returning home.
As a documentary and editorial wedding photographer, I have always believed that wedding photographs should be about more than beautiful locations, perfectly arranged details, or carefully curated moments. They should tell the truth about what it felt like to be there.
To be surrounded by people you love. To celebrate a relationship that belongs entirely to you. To experience something extraordinary without losing sight of the wonderfully ordinary, human moments that make it meaningful.
Abby and Becker gave me the opportunity to document their wedding in one of the most beautiful places I have ever worked. And for that, I will always be grateful.
Perched along the stunning Tuscan coastline, Villa Parisi is a historic Italian wedding venue overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, located in the charming seaside town of Castiglioncello.
While Tuscany is often associated with rolling vineyards, olive groves, rustic estates, and countryside villas, the region’s coastline offers an entirely different kind of magic.
Here, the landscape is defined by dramatic coastal views, Mediterranean pine trees, historic architecture, and the seemingly endless blue of the sea.
Villa Parisi brings all of these elements together.
Originally built in the early twentieth century, the villa combines historic Italian character with the relaxed elegance of a seaside retreat. Its gardens, terraces, panoramic dining spaces, and private access to the water make it an incredible setting for a destination wedding in Tuscany.
And as a photographer? The possibilities are extraordinary.
The contrast between the villa’s architecture and the natural landscape creates a setting that feels simultaneously timeless and cinematic. There is texture, depth, movement, and an abundance of beautiful natural light.
It’s the kind of place where the surroundings contribute to the story without needing to become the entire story.
For couples dreaming of a luxury Italian destination wedding that feels intimate, romantic, and effortlessly elegant, Villa Parisi is an exceptional location to consider.
One of the greatest privileges of being a wedding photographer is being invited into people’s lives during moments they will remember forever.
It’s something I never want to become desensitized to.
There is an enormous amount of trust involved in hiring someone to document your wedding day, especially when that means inviting them to travel internationally.
Abby and Becker could have chosen any number of talented photographers for their Italian wedding. Instead, they chose me.
And that means more than I can adequately put into words.
Destination weddings are particularly special because they invite couples to be intentional about the experience they want to create. Beyond the wedding itself, there is the adventure of traveling somewhere meaningful, bringing loved ones together, and creating memories that extend far beyond a single celebration.
But what I love most about destination wedding photography isn’t necessarily the destination.
It’s the people.
It’s the way love translates across languages, countries, and cultures. The familiar tenderness of a couple reaching for one another. The expressions that happen when someone forgets there’s a camera nearby. The beautiful, unscripted humanity of people celebrating together.
Those are the things I travel to document.
And getting to do that for Abby and Becker, against the backdrop of the Tuscan coast, was an incredible honor.
My approach to photographing weddings has always been rooted in a balance between documentary storytelling and editorial artistry.
I love beautiful portraits. I love thoughtful compositions, dramatic light, interesting architecture, and photographs that could live comfortably in the pages of an editorial publication.
But I also believe that some of the most important photographs from a wedding are the ones nobody planned.
The fleeting expressions. The imperfect, beautiful interactions. The laughter, movement, and little moments of connection that happen naturally throughout the day.
Documentary wedding photography is about preserving those moments without constantly interrupting them.
Editorial wedding photography, on the other hand, allows me to bring an intentional artistic perspective to composition, lighting, movement, and portraiture.
When the two approaches come together, the result is a wedding gallery that feels both elevated and deeply personal.
And Italy is an extraordinary place to create that kind of work.
At Villa Parisi, the historic surroundings and Mediterranean landscape offer a wealth of visual inspiration. The architecture lends itself beautifully to editorial compositions, while the surrounding gardens and coastal views create opportunities for natural, movement-filled portraits.
I don’t believe couples should have to choose between looking incredible in their wedding photographs and actually enjoying their wedding.
You deserve both.
My goal is to create space for genuine moments to unfold while bringing the experience and artistic direction necessary to create photographs that feel timeless.
When couples begin planning an Italian destination wedding, their searches often lead them toward Florence, the Chianti countryside, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast, or the rolling hills of central Tuscany.
And while each of those destinations is beautiful, I think coastal Tuscany deserves considerably more attention.
The town of Castiglioncello sits along the Tyrrhenian Sea in the province of Livorno, offering a beautiful combination of Italian coastal charm, Mediterranean scenery, and historic architecture.
Unlike the more familiar image of a Tuscan vineyard wedding, a Castiglioncello destination wedding offers something slightly different.
Imagine the warmth of the Italian sun, the sound of waves against the shoreline, and the kind of sea views that make you forget about your phone entirely.
The landscape feels dramatic without being overwhelming. Romantic without feeling overly manufactured.
For couples drawn to the elegance of an Italian villa wedding but who also love the ocean, this region offers a wonderful balance.
And for wedding photography, that variety is particularly valuable.
A single location can provide historic architectural backdrops, lush greenery, panoramic coastal views, and beautiful Mediterranean light.
It’s an incredible environment for couples who want their wedding photographs to feel like a combination of an intimate love story, a European travel journal, and a timeless editorial.
There is a reason historic Italian villas have become such sought-after destinations for weddings.
Beyond their obvious beauty, they offer an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate.
They have history. Character. Texture.
They feel lived in, rather than manufactured solely for events.
Villa Parisi is particularly appealing because of its relationship with the surrounding landscape. Its sea-view spaces, gardens, poolside areas, and coastal access allow couples to create a wedding experience that feels connected to the destination itself.
The venue also offers on-site guest accommodations, making it possible for some of your closest loved ones to stay nearby throughout the celebration.
For couples traveling internationally, that can make a meaningful difference.
Instead of treating your wedding as a single event squeezed between complicated transportation logistics, you can build an experience that gives you more time to connect with the people who traveled to celebrate you.
And as a photographer, I absolutely love that.
Because the best wedding photographs rarely come from a day that feels like a nonstop production.
They come from having enough space to be present.
To linger in conversations. To laugh with your favorite people. To embrace your partner without someone immediately telling you it’s time for the next scheduled activity.
Those moments matter just as much as the ceremony, portraits, and reception.
Sometimes, they matter even more.
Planning a destination wedding introduces an entirely different set of considerations, especially when it comes to photography.
Travel logistics, unfamiliar venues, changing light, cultural differences, and the natural unpredictability of weddings all require adaptability.
One of the things my years of experience have taught me is that being a skilled wedding photographer involves considerably more than knowing how to operate a camera.
It means understanding how to anticipate moments before they happen.
How to work with difficult lighting conditions without disrupting the experience.
How to photograph unfamiliar environments confidently.
How to adapt when timelines change, weather becomes unpredictable, or the day unfolds differently than originally planned.
And perhaps most importantly, how to remain calm and present so that the people around you can do the same.
When I travel internationally for a wedding, I bring the same documentary-centered approach that defines my work at home.
I don’t need every moment to be perfectly orchestrated.
I don’t need couples to perform their love for the camera.
I want to understand who you are, what matters to you, and how to photograph your wedding in a way that feels authentic to your relationship.
The beautiful scenery is simply an added gift.
One of the things I wish more couples understood about wedding photography is that you don’t have to become a different version of yourself to create beautiful images.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to spend hours away from your guests.
And you certainly don’t need to recreate someone else’s Pinterest board for your wedding to be worthy of beautiful photographs.
I believe the most compelling wedding galleries are the ones that reflect the actual people in them.
Your personalities. Your relationship. Your humor. Your affection. Your community.
The way you naturally move together and interact with the people you love.
As a documentary wedding photographer, I pay attention to those details because they’re what make your story yours.
My editing style is warm, intentional, and true to the atmosphere of the day. I love rich tones, natural skin, beautiful texture, and the timeless character that a little grain can bring to an image.
I want photographs that feel like memories.
Images that are beautiful today, but become even more meaningful as the years pass.
Because someday, the people in those photographs will look different. Life will change. The world around you will continue moving.
And those images will become a way of returning to a moment you can never physically experience again.
That is the responsibility, and the extraordinary privilege, of being a wedding photographer.
Abby and Becker, I genuinely cannot thank you enough.
Thank you for trusting me with your wedding photographs.
Thank you for inviting me to experience such a beautiful part of the world alongside you.
And thank you for taking a chance on an artist whose greatest joy is telling stories about people in love.
Traveling to Italy to photograph your wedding was an experience I will never forget, and I am so incredibly grateful that our paths crossed.
Being entrusted with someone’s wedding memories is never something I take lightly. Being invited to carry that responsibility across an ocean makes it even more meaningful.
I hope these photographs always bring you back to this chapter of your lives, to Italy, to one another, and to everything that made this experience special.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to be part of your story.
With so much love,
Morgan
