If you’re looking for an Austin wedding venue that feels a little romantic, a little moody, a little European, and absolutely nothing like a traditional ballroom, let me introduce you to Justine’s Secret House.
Maria and Jordan celebrated their wedding at this hidden East Austin gem, and honestly? This is exactly the kind of space that makes my little documentary-photographer heart happy.
Intimate. Eclectic. Romantic. A little weird in the best possible way.
This Justine’s Secret House wedding in Austin, Texas was centered around what weddings should actually be about: two people wildly in love, surrounded by their favorite humans, eating incredible food, drinking good drinks, and actually getting to EXPERIENCE the party they spent so much time planning.
Tucked away in East Austin, Justine’s Secret House is the private event space associated with the iconic Justine’s Brasserie.
And “Secret House” is a pretty accurate description.
Instead of walking into a giant traditional wedding venue, you enter a space that feels intimate, collected, eclectic, and lived-in. Between the courtyard, vintage-inspired interiors, moody atmosphere, artwork, greenery, and signature Justine’s personality, there is visual interest basically everywhere you turn.
For an Austin wedding photographer, that is a DREAM.
I love venues that already have a strong personality because my couples don’t have to transform a giant blank room into something interesting. The environment becomes another character in the story.
Justine’s Secret House already knows exactly who she is.
And we love a confident woman.
There is something really special about photographing smaller weddings.
When you aren’t trying to entertain 250 people scattered across an enormous venue, there is room for connection.
You can actually talk to your guests.
You can hug people.
You can sit down and eat.
You can look around and recognize every single person in the room.
And from a documentary wedding photography perspective, that intimacy creates MAGIC.
Instead of constantly manufacturing moments for photographs, I can watch.
I can look for the hand reaching across the table. The friend losing it during a speech. Someone fixing your dress when you don’t realize I’m watching. Your parents looking at you from across the room. The ridiculous dance-floor moment happening behind you.
Those are the photographs that eventually become priceless.
My approach to weddings has always been documentary rooted and editorial inspired.
I want the weird stuff.
The emotional stuff.
The beautiful stuff.
The slightly unhinged stuff.
I want the portraits that could live in a magazine AND the photograph of your best friend absolutely losing their mind on the dance floor.
Because your wedding isn’t one thing.
It’s elegant and chaotic. Romantic and hilarious. Quiet and loud. Intentional and completely unpredictable.
So your wedding gallery shouldn’t feel one-dimensional either.
A venue like Justine’s Secret House gives us so much room to play with that balance.
The moody interiors lend themselves beautifully to flash photography and editorial portraits, while the courtyard and intimate layout are perfect for documenting interactions naturally as they unfold.
Instead of forcing the entire wedding day into a Pinterest checklist, I want to create photographs that actually feel like you were there.
One of the biggest things I tell my couples is this:
Your wedding day is not a photoshoot.
Yes, I am absolutely going to steal you away and make some ART.
But then I’m sending you back to your people.
I don’t believe you should spend an hour and a half of cocktail hour disappearing into a field while everyone you love is somewhere else enjoying the party.
Especially at an intimate Austin wedding venue like Justine’s Secret House.
Part of what makes this space so special is the atmosphere. Your guests are gathered together, drinks are flowing, food is being served, conversations are happening, and the evening is unfolding around you.
I want you IN IT.
We’ll make beautiful portraits.
We’ll play with the light.
We’ll create something editorial.
And then I want you to go eat your dinner and kiss your spouse and hug your friends and actually live the damn thing.
If the words “hotel ballroom” make you die a little inside, Justine’s Secret House might be your kind of wedding venue.
It feels distinctly Austin without trying too hard to feel like Austin.
It’s romantic without being precious.
Elegant without being stuffy.
Eclectic without becoming a Pinterest theme.
And intimate without feeling boring.
For couples who care more about good food, atmosphere, photography, and spending time with their people than checking every box on the traditional wedding checklist, there is so much to love here.
And because Justine’s handles catering and bar service, the food and drinks aren’t an afterthought—they’re part of the experience.
As someone who photographs weddings for a living, I will forever advocate for building a wedding around how you want the day to feel, rather than how you’ve been told a wedding is supposed to look.
If you’re planning a Justine’s Secret House wedding, my biggest advice is to embrace what makes the venue different.
You don’t need to turn it into something else.
Lean into the moodiness.
Lean into the candlelight.
Lean into the courtyard.
Lean into an incredible dinner with your favorite humans.
And please, for the love of all things holy, leave some room in your timeline to actually enjoy it.
The photographs I love most are rarely created when someone is frantically looking at their watch.
They’re created when you forget about me.
When you settle into dinner.
When your shoulders finally drop.
When someone makes you laugh so hard your face hurts.
When you’re halfway through a conversation and suddenly realize, holy shit, we’re married.
That’s the good stuff.
Hi, I’m Morgan!
I’m an Austin wedding photographer specializing in documentary-rooted, editorial-inspired wedding photography for couples who want to be present on their wedding day.
My job isn’t to turn your wedding into an eight-hour photoshoot.
It’s to tell the story of it.
I want you to have photographs that are romantic and intentional enough to hang on your walls—but honest enough that twenty years from now, they bring back the people, energy, chaos, tenderness, and tiny moments you had completely forgotten about.
So if you’re planning a Justine’s Secret House wedding in Austin, Texas, an intimate East Austin celebration, or a wedding that throws the traditional rulebook out the window?
You are VERY much my kind of people.
